DAY 33 THURS. NOV. 1 CUENCA

Pablo took a well-deserved day off, and our guide today was a very personable young man named Albaro. He and Edgar drove us up to Las Cajas National Park where we wandered along a lovely mountain lake, marvelled at the beautiful scenery and saw some spectacular birds. Truth to tell, it was an OK outing, but nothing out of the ordinary. The rest of the day was spent shopping unsuccessfully for jewellery, enjoying marvellous folklorico dancing and music from Mexico, Chile, Peru and Ecudaor, a fine dinner and wandering the streets of Cuenca as it gears up for a holiday weekend. We seemed to just miss all the main events, such as open-air concerts and fireworks, but no matter, we enjoyed this bustling city.
