DAY 22 SUN. OCT. 21 CIENAGA - BANOS

We reluctantly bid farewell to our classy hacienda and headed south. The weather remained agreeably warm and bright. Everything was fine except for some "internal rumblings" in my gut. Oh well, that's why God invented Immodium.

We arrived in Banos in the early afternoon. This is a wild looking town catering to backpackers and extreme sports junkies. Needless to say, our group was at the older end of the demographic. We hiked down, then up to an impressive waterfall, the Devil's Bowl. Ross, Barb and I  tried to climb to a higher level to get a better view, but the climb involved duck-walking in a claustrophobic tunnel only inches tall. As we ascended, we encountered too many people who were descending. It proved to be a time-consuming and difficult climb. We emerged from our rocky coffin but the view wasn't great, the crowds still heavy, so we descended. I did the last 10 meters going backwards like a crab, not dignified, but I survived. The day was capped off by a cool cable car ride over a river gorge. Dinner was an Argentinian barbeque, smoky and carnivorous ... I fear that every 4-legged creature between here and Texas was slaughtered for our amusement. My bowels really appreciate it !!
